Another INSIDER’S PETRA favorite site, Dana is a small village near the city of Tafila, in in the central-west of the country. It is located on the edge of a large natural gorge, called ‘Wadi Dana’ with fantastic views over ‘Wadi Araba’. The village itself is about 500 years old and preserves many special aspects of Jordanian villages of the 19th century.
This is also the site of the Dana Nature Reserve, one of Jordan’s best nature reserves with eco-tourism facilities. A beautiful area for exploring and hiking. The FEYNAN ECOLODGE – constructed in 2005 on the western edge of the Dana Biosphere Reserve is owned by the Royal Society for Conservation of Nature; the first of its kind in Jordan, and hailed as one of the top 50 ecolodges in the world by National Geographic Adventure magazine.
