Another favorite stop of INSIDER’S PETRA. Famed as ‘the lowest
point on Earth’ at 1,388 feet below sea level, Jordan’s Dead Sea is shared with Israel on the West side of the huge hypersaline lake. Biblically, the Dead Sea
was a refuge for King David and was one of the world’s first health resort areas (Herod the Great used it).
The mild weather and high percentage of oxygen in the atmosphere here, along with the famous Dead Sea waters and minerals, makes this a very popular stop for travelers and locals alike. There are a number of lovely resorts on the Jordan side of the Dead Sea; and INSIDER’S PETRA highly recommends taking the time to spend at least one overnight in this area. The resorts are less than a one hour drive to the Amman international airport, making it a perfect last stop on a Jordan travel itinerary.
